There are two ways to color the gel solution of softgel capsules:
One method is to add the dye/pigment directly into the gelatin melting tank during the gelatin melting process. The dye/pigment is dispersed and melted into the gel solution through slow stirring of the gelatin melter agitator.
The other method is to use a specialized color mixing machine in a heated gelatin tank after the gel melting is complete to mix various colors at high speed.
The advantage of coloring in the gelatin melter is that no additional specialized equipment is required. The disadvantage is that only one color can be prepared per melter, and due to the typically large volume of the gelatin melter, thorough cleaning is required to avoid incomplete color removal affecting the next gel formation.
Using a specialized softgel capsule color mixing machine requires the purchase of the machine.
